Direct Variation Definition

Direct Variation Definition Direct variation definition is that two variables are related in such a way that when one variable changes then the other variable changes in proportion. In simple words, direct variation shows the relationship between two variables which is expressed by an equation. Direct variation is a special case of linear equation. If A is directly proportional to B, then the equation is A= k* B where k is a constant. Problem 1: If y varies directly as x, and y =18 when x = 12, find k and write equation. Solution: Given: y varies directly as x that means y is directly proportional to x = So, the equation is y = k x = The values of x =12 when y =18 = Plug in the values and solve for k = The equation is y = k x = 18 = k * 12 = Then k = 18 /12 = 3/2 = Thus, the value of k = 3/2 = Now, go back to equation y= k x and substitute k = 3/2 = The required equation is y = (3/2) x Problem 2: In a factory, the profit, P, varies directly with the inventory, I. If P = 200 when I = 40. Find P when I = 50. Solution: Since P varies directly with inventory l = The equation is P = k*l = We use given set of data to get value of constant k. = If p=200 when l = 40 then 200 = k * 40 = K = 200/40 = 5 = Now, Find P when l = 50 = P = k*l = P = 5 * 50 = 250

Want to Get Ahead at Work You Need to Be Visible - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Want to Get Ahead at Work You Need to Be Visible - Introvert Whisperer Want to Get Ahead at Work? You Need to Be Visible If you have even the smallest amount of ambition for your career, visibility to the decision-makers is critical. We hear about visibility, but we don’t always understand it or think it’s in our control. Let’s look at it and why it’s important to your career: Visibility Goes Two Ways Never thought of that before, did you? It’s important for key decision-makers to have exposure to or contact with you. It’s part of their decision-making. If management or your customers understand what you contribute and how well you do it, they’re more apt to think of you for things like promotions and opportunities. It’s important for you to see what’s going on with them, which is why visibility is really two-way. If you can see what your decision-makers are focusing on and what’s important to them, you’re positioned to respond to it better. It’s a classic business proposition. If you aren’t supplying what your customer wants (in this case, upper management or customers), then you won’t be the one they select for anything. Stark but true. Here are some tips for the kind of visibility you want to get: 1. Don’t Be In Awe Oftentimes, we allow ourselves to get intimidated by those ranked above us. You have to understand that they’re people, too, and they’re working for a living. That means they also want to be successful in their jobs. Certainly, you want to be respectful of their time, but don’t steer clear of them, thinking what you do is unimportant. If it were unimportant, they would never have hired you. 2. Pay Attention and Ask Questions The most prized people (and therefore employees) of all are the ones who show an interest. Interest starts by being curious and involved with the goals of the other person. If you feel like you can’t form good questions, pay attention to what they pay attention to and ask your boss for more insight. Share important things you do that they might find interesting. Not everything you do falls into this category, which means the previous tip is vital in figuring out what to share. 3. Pick the Right Time You don’t necessarily have to schedule time for your share. You can share in group meetings, hallway or for an unplanned office drop-in. Look for opportunities. 4. Share The Right Amount One thing Introverts have to watch out for is sharing too much information. We usually house a ton of good stuff in our heads. When you share with upper management, they can typically only handle the top-level input on a topic. I call this the “scratch and sniff” of information sharing. Short and to the point is what will win the heart of an executive. Visibility is part of what you create when you’re self-promoting. Self-promotion is important for ongoing career growth. If not YOU, then who? (Click here to tweet this thought.) What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to building your own visibility? Share your thoughts in the comments! Image: Flickr Go to top Let me emphasize that Self-Promotion doesn’t have to be obnoxious to be effective.  But, if you don’t Self-Promote you, who will? 7 Things You Should Know About Your Introvert Employee - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / 7 Things You Should Know About Your Introvert Employee - Introvert Whisperer 7 Things You Should Know About Your Introvert Employee Leaders come in every personality type from Introvert to Extrovert and all sorts of other flavors.   One thing every good leader has to know is how to bring out the best in each person they are responsible for leading.    It’s not always easy to know how to interact with some people, especially when the behavior isn’t your type. You might even find some behaviors annoying but despite that, your job is to get an introvert employee or not, to work as productively as possible.   I want to help you accelerate your career! Here is FREE, Instant Access to my video that outlines all of this and meaningful actions you can take today! CLICK HERE Here are some suggestions for bringing out the best in the introverts you work with:     1. Ask them what they think.   Just because the introvert isn’t as outwardly engaging in conversation, doesn’t mean they don’t have something to contribute.   They may simply be hoping for a chance to join in but interrupting is not something they are  prone  to do. 2. What you see is not all you get.   Introverts have fantastic things to contribute but you may not know it at first glance or even second glance. You may not think you should have to dig their assets out of them, but if you do, you may be richly rewarded.   You probably have a star and don’t even know it. 3. They need process and think time.   If you want the best that an introvert has to offer, don’t just spring things on them and demand an instant answer.   Of course, you might get an answer but the best answer will be one where you have planted the seed and harvested a response later. 4. They aren’t shy or anti-social.   A myth about introverts is that they don’t like to be around people.   Untrue.   They are as social as the next person it’s just that they need to be alone to produce their best work and to think through things.   They do get grumpy when that solitude is interrupted or when not given enough alone time. 5. Email is your friend.   Introverts do love to write.   It allows them to collect their thoughts before communicating.   Wanna know something? Email your introvert. 6. Expect depth and expertise.   Your introvert will go very deep in areas of interest to them.   You can create a resident expert if you  unleash  all of that focus.   This is tremendously powerful to have that kind of an asset. 7. Too much talk may shut them down.    An  autopilot  feature that the introvert has is to shut down talking and may go so far as to shut down the listening.   This is especially true with too much talking and too much stimulation going on around them.   If you notice it, don’t worry the brain is still engaged.   You might want to suggest a break. As a leader, you have to learn that not everyone functions the same.   You have to be alert and know how to adjust so you can turn each person into the best version of who they are. Power-Influence-Office Politics: it comes down to your Strategic Relationships and understanding of how you build each one of these elements. Algebra Made Easy

Algebra Made Easy In algebra we have number of shortcuts to do the math in the smartest way. We can use this process in multiplication of numbers. For example, ab is a number and cd is a number. To find the product, we first add ab + d and then can find the product of b and d. We can write the result in the unit place before ab+ d. Example 1: Find the product of 13 and 12 by hard way and smarter way. Solution: First we need to discuss about the hard way. That is 13 X 12 2 6 1 3 x 1 5 6 So the product of 13 and 12 is 156. Now we can discuss about smarter way to find the product of 13 and 12. First we can add the 13 and 2, its equals to 13 + 2 = 15. But we can take 15 as 10s digit and 100s digit numbers. This means we need to fill units digit. Next we can take the product of units digits, That is 3 x 2 = 6 We can write the number 6 That number is 156. Example 2: Find the product of 17 and 11 by hard way and smarter way. Solution: We know 17 x 11 = 187 Now we can discuss about smarter way to find the product of 17 and 11. First we can add the 17 and 1, its equals to 17 + 1 = 18. But we can take 18 as 10s digit and 100s digit numbers. This means we need to fill units digit. Next we can take the product of units digits, That is 7 x 1 = 7 We can write the number 7 That number is 187.

Coaching classes are small classrooms that have with it few students and each student is taught by the private tutor. Every child is not able to be comfortable with such coaching classes and thus fail miserably. Only way is online tutoring When a child is unable to get the help that they want from a private tutor then they automatically search for a better alternative. 3 Tips for Getting Back on Track After the Holidays

3 Tips for Getting Back on Track After the Holidays Are you and your child having a hard time getting back into the swing of things after the holiday break? Youre not alone! The week following the winter holidays is one of the most challenging times of the year for families of kids with ADHD. The excitement and intensity of the holidays, the delicious treats, late bedtimes and lazy mornings, and extra screen time sets kids up for a difficult adjustment when they return to school. For kids with ADHD, their symptoms often seem to be at their worst this week, and many will be more argumentative and oppositional than usual. As a parent, youre undoubtedly having a difficult time getting back into your own routine, and have less energy available to deal with your childs challenges. While the first few weeks in January will never be without their difficulties, there are things you can do to help them go as smoothly as possible for you and your child. Adjust Your Expectations. Your child is going to have more difficulty getting out of the house in the morning, will probably forget things that he or she needs to bring home from school, will have a hard time getting started on homework, and will have a more difficult time falling asleep at night. This is normal and to be expected! Provide your child with extra support if he or she needs it, and be patient when things dont go as planned. Just because your child is struggling this week doesnt mean that things will always be this way. This is a temporary situation and your child will be back on track soon. Minimize Your Own Tasks and Commitments. This adjustment period will go more smoothly if you keep your own responsibilities and commitments to a minimum. While you cant stop doing all of the things that keep your home and life running smoothly, there are things that you can do to reduce the burden. Plan meals that require little prep work or clean up, put off any non-essential errands, and ask for help from other parents, friends, and family with things like school or activity pick-ups and drop-offs. Schedule fun family activities for the weeks ahead. For most kids, the holidays are followed by a long stretch of winter that doesnt include many planned fun activities at home or at school. This can take a serious toll on a childs mood and motivation, especially when a child has ADHD. Schedule fun activities that your child and your family can look forward to. Friday family movie nights, ice skating or sledding, a visit to an indoor waterpark or activity center, and a trip to your familys favorite museum are all fun ways to spend time on winter weekends. Schedule these activities in advance, and post them somewhere at home where your child can see the list every day. When your child is feeling down, remind him or her of all of the exciting days ahead. The return to school after the winter break isnt easy for kids with ADHD or their families. A little planning, patience, and understanding can go a long way in making this time as enjoyable as possible for you and your child. ABOUT DR. Huntington Learning Center Celebrates Read Across America Day

Huntington Learning Center Celebrates Read Across America Day Calling all children, parents and others who love to read: March 2, 2017, is Read Across America Day. Huntington Learning Center joins millions of elementary and secondary teachers, administrators, higher education faculty, education support professionals, librarians, students and others in the education industry as well as members of the National Education Association (NEA) to celebrate this annual literary event, now in its 20th year. Read Across America Day also marks the birthday of revered childrens author, Theodor Seuss Geisel: the beloved and prolific Dr. Seuss. The celebrations goal is to inspire children and adults alike to read by offering reading resources and organizing fun events and activities. While March 2 is the official day of celebration, the NEA strives to build a nation of readers all year longthrough events, partnerships and a range of reading resources that make reading more enjoyable and accessible for everyone. Everyone at Huntington loves Read Across America Day because it is a day that we join our community members and celebrate reading for the entertaining and worthwhile escape that it is. A good book can inspire the mind and nurture the soul. We stand behind the NEAs goal with this annual celebration of one of the worlds most influential authors to help more children discover new knowledge and adventure through books. Here are several suggestions for parents to encourage their children to read: Visit the library often. The library is free for everyonetake advantage of the books, e-books and other resources that it offers. Most libraries also host many activities for children of all ages. Make visiting the library a weekly tradition. Download a free e-reader app. Open eBooks puts books in the hands of everyone. Learn more about President Obamas ConnectED initiative to make books available to all children and how to download and use Open eBooks. Have a happy reading hour. When everyone in your household gets into the habit of reading, your child will be more likely to associate it with fun family time. Spend time together at least a few nights a week with books, blankets and mugs of hot chocolate. Engage with other readers. Part of the joy of reading is talking about the stories youre reading. Websites like Goodreads are a wonderful way for children to engage with peers and share their thoughts about the books theyre enjoying and seek book recommendations. Ask your childs teacher about book clubs or groups through school, too. Try it all. Magazines, comic books, newspapers and blogsthese are all great ways to engage reluctant readers who are less enthusiastic about books for one reason or another. Remember that reading is reading. If your child isnt excited about books, there are many other ways to get him or her reading, so keep trying. To learn more about Read Across America or to get involved, visit www.nea.org/readacross. Short Sightedness - Tutor Hunt Blog

Short Sightedness Further education increases the risk of short sightedness Further education increases the risk of short sightednessUniversitiesA study conducted by the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences at Cardiff University, and recently published in the British Medical Journal, makes an astonishing claim. The longer you spend in education the greater chance you have of developing myopia. Put in simple terms, this means that the more time you spend at school or university, the greater the chances are that you will need to wear glasses. Professor Jez Guggenheim, who was involved in the study, was quite frank about the link between schooling and short sightedness: `Our study provides strong evidence that length of time spent in education is a causal risk factor for myopia.` `Policymakers should be aware that the educational practices used to teach children and to promote personal and economic health may have the unintended consequence of causing increasing levels of myopia and later visual disability as a result.` Since there is a known link between severe myopia and loss of sight, the result of the study allows this astonishing statement to be made: the more time you spend in education, the more likely you are to go blind. The study also predicts the rate of ocular deterioration, and actually says that if a student has 20/20 vision at the age of 16, by the time they graduate from university they might well need glasses to legally drive. Ask people what they think an intelligent person looks like, and they will probably describe a range of physical characteristics. Tall, thin, perhaps wild unruly hair might be amongst the characteristics cited - but most people will say the person wears glasses. The bespectacled boffin is a of course a cliche - one that features prominently in movies. Woody Allen, the intelligent, neurosis ridden character, can hardly be imagined without his thick black spectacles. Dr. Egon Spengler, the smart one out of the four ghostbusters, is another glasses wearer; and of course superman has to do little more than put on his spectacles to become the nerdy, anodyne Clark Kent. The cliche continues into the world of cartoons: Velma from Scooby Doo - is the only character in the show wearing glasses, and the only character, so it seemed to me as a child, possessing a modicum of sense. Professor Frink and Professor Farnsworth, from the Simpsons and Futurama respectively, sport eyeglasses so thick as to be completely opaque. Millhouse, another Simpsons character, and the archetype nerd, wears glasses throughout the show; and Chuckie, the timid brainiac from Rugrats wears spectacles from infancy. It`s certain a hackneyed cliche that glasses wearers are more intelligent than those with perfect vision, but the Cardiff study suggests that myopia can be caused by long hours spent staring at text on screens, and scrutinising textbooks. With the growing prevalence of phones and tablets in people`s lives, surely today our eyesight is under greater strain than ever. It is estimated that by 2050 as much as half the world`s population, around 5 billion people, will be short sighted, compared to 1.4 billion people today; and about 10% of them will suffer from severe myopia, a condition that can lead to blindness. Though many might doubt the link between education and eyesight problems, one only has to look at countries like South Korea, China and Singapore - places that have an intense teaching schedule, including longer school hours, and evening study classes - where about 90% of students leave school at 18 with glasses. At the end of primary school as many as half of children in these countries suffer from myopia, compared to just 10% of British school children. The authors of the study were not too forthcoming in offering solutions to this problem. Other than saying children should be spending more time outdoors, they didn`t offer any practical methods of dealing with their rather dire predictions. Outdoor lessons may sound like a lot of fun - children out in the fresh air, surrounded by nature - but it really would be a logistical nightmare. As an ex teacher myself, I can testify to the necessity of having a class surrounded by four walls. Goodness knows how many children would be wandering off into the undergrowth during a taxing maths or English lesson. The study was certainly an extensive one, involving nearly 68,000 men and women who were registered with the UK Biobank programme. Drawing on a wealth of information, such genetic markers linked to myopia, and the amount of time subjects had been in education, the study concluded that more time spent in education leads to a `rising prevalence of myopia.` I have read through the study, and confess that it is a little too technical for me. I do wonder how anyone can ascertain a `genetic predisposition to higher levels of education,` but I must bow brighter minds than my own. Perhaps the study will have ophthalmologists around the country rubbing their hands in glee, but we certainly should not let it be used as a tool to detract from the importance of education. 20 months ago0Add a Comment
